Janet Cornell

JANET G. CORNELL is a court consultant, educator, and author with expansive court experience in general and limited jurisdiction courts in the United States. From 2023-2024, she served as a senior special projects’ consultant with the Arizona Supreme Court Administrative Office of the Courts. From 2002-2013 she was the court administrator for the Scottsdale (Arizona) City Court. Previously she was a criminal justice integration consultant with the Maricopa County (Phoenix, AZ) IT Department, a senior judicial administrator with the Superior Court of Arizona in Maricopa County (Phoenix, AZ), administrator with the Maricopa County, Arizona, Justice Courts, and operations manager, U.S. District Court, District of Arizona. From 2009 to 2023, she was a part time contract faculty and consultant for the National Center for State Courts Institute for Court Management and Court Consulting Services Division. 

Recognized for her expertise in caseflow management, court performance measurement, operational reengineering, and leadership, Janet is a frequent presenter and consultant for local and international audiences. Presentations and consulting for administrative and judicial audiences have included the states of Alabama, Arizona, California, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, and Washington. She has also consulted, facilitated, or presented for courts and court professionals in Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Guam, Guyana, Micronesia, Moldova, Palau, and Serbia. 

Janet’s articles have been published in court professional publications. Currently she serves as the Editor for the NACM quarterly newsletter "The Court Express" (www.nacmnet.org/resources/publications/). Since 2016, Janet has hosted and contributed to a website with court leadership content at www.courtleader.net.  She is past president of the National Association for Court Management, the Arizona Courts Association, and the (Arizona) Limited Jurisdiction Court Administrators Association. She is a current member of the National Association for Court Management with ongoing involvement in association conferences, committees, and projects. She also belongs to the National Association for Court Presiding Judges and Executive Officers and the International Association for Court Administration. 

Janet has a Master’s Degree in public administration and a Bachelor of Arts in French (Arizona State University), is a Fellow of the Institute for Court Management-National Center for State Courts (Williamsburg, Virginia), and has received certificates from the Leader Coach Institute (Scottsdale, Arizona) and the Leadership Institute for Judicial Education (Memphis, Tennessee). She has received awards from the Arizona Supreme Court, the City of Scottsdale, the NACM, and the National Center for State Courts. Leisure activities include traveling to Hawaii and driving NASCAR or Indy race cars.
